Is the California Licensed Contractors Exam Difficult?

One thing lots of new students ask about, as they contemplate the process of becoming a licensed contractor in California, is whether the exam they’ll have to pass is difficult.

The short answer, of course, is that it really depends on who you ask… or for that matter, who you are. Some people pick up the knowledge more easily than others, not to mention the fact that some people feel anxiety at taking tests that others don’t.

In general, though, the best question isn’t whether or not the exam is difficult; it’s how prepared you are going to be to take it. At CSLS, we have a reputation for helping our students to make sure they are ready to not only take the exam, but also pass on the first try. Here are a few things we advise them to do to make the process easier:

Leave plenty of time. Although we do offer crash course programs, we generally recommend these as a last-minute review, not a comprehensive guide to the California licensed contractors exam. The fact of the matter is that having more time (like a few weeks, months or more) makes it easier for you to absorb the information gradually. It also does wonders to cut down your stress about the learning and testing process.

Get the right instruction. It goes without saying that we are big believers in getting the best instructors and learning materials you can. After all, that’s going to make studying for your exam a lot easier, and possibly even more fun. Plus, with the right learning aids you can absorb the information faster than you would otherwise.

Make this important career step the focus in your life. This isn’t like going back to school because the training for your California contractors exam doesn’t have to go on and on for a long time. So, make it a big priority for the few weeks you need it. You can always catch up on TV and time with your friends after work – you’ll just have an easier time with it because you’ll be on the way to a better life.

Some CSLS students find the California licensed contractors exam difficult, and others don’t. But, with a 99.9% first-time passing rate, our school has the tools and experience needed to prepare every construction professional for success, regardless of their anxiety level or educational background.
