How Contractors Can Get Great Reviews
As a self-employed contractor, getting reviews from satisfied customers is an important part of marketing your business. That’s because people don’t believe what you say in your brochures and on your website as much as they believe one another.
In other words, if they want to know whether you’re really good at what you do, they’re going to read the reviews.
In fact, what customers say about you on Yelp or Angie’s List can go a long way toward determining whether you’ll be successful in your business or not. With that in mind, it makes sense to do everything you can to encourage them to leave positive feedback. Here are a few tips you can follow to get them started:
Take the right projects. If you want to get good reviews and build the right reputation, it makes sense to only accept construction projects you know you can handle and to work with customers that are a good fit for your personality. The happier you are with what you’re doing, the more likely you are to impress your customer and get a great testimonial.
Give accurate quotes. It doesn’t matter how strong your construction work is if your customer ends up being shocked by their final bill. Get good at estimating, and do everything you can to provide your customers with accurate quotes. Pricing is a big part of customer satisfaction.
Go beyond your customers’ expectations. If you can spend a couple extra hours and do something that’s even better than your customer was expecting, go for it. They won’t just be impressed; they will probably be happy to provide you with a good review for your efforts (and may even hire you again themselves in the future).
Ask customers to write a review. Don’t be afraid to mention to satisfied customers that reviews help you grow your business. Most people will be happy to write a good review for you if they’re satisfied with your work as a contractor.
